You ease the lid from an old wooden hive. Bees hum around your hands as you lift a frame heavy with honeycomb. Honey seeps from the broken edge, thick and golden in the afternoon heat.

Its sweetness fills the air. Beneath it comes dark tobacco from the smoker resting beside you. A thin stream curls over the open hive, mingling with the warm honey.

You lean the frame over a copper pan and watch it drain. The tobacco grows richer as the smoke settles, giving the honey a darker sweetness. Resinous amber lingers beneath both, warm against the scent of the wooden frames.

By dusk, honey coats your fingers and tobacco clings to your sleeves. You lower the lid, leaving the bees to their work.
